I would buy this if they added Votrax and Doubletalk, and Speech Box mode to tie it all together. Pleeeeeeease!!!!!! I miss those old synthesizers. Accent, too? Pleeeeeease????!!!! 😿

@Woody have been playing around a little with the Meta Ray-Bans. I’ve just posted a method that I’ve used to get it to read the entire text on a page. Not perfect as it’s a two-step approach but at least it gave the whole text.
You have to ask Meta look and tell me what you see and wait for the summary to complete which is a little painful.
Then I asked Meta without saying hey Meta because you can still do that in the same conversation, read this to me exactly how it is written. It then said extracted text and read the page. Might be worth playing around a bit but that seem to work for me. Cheers.

in reply to Mark Fisher

These AI programs need to have a mode where they just read the text instead of starting out with a summary.
in reply to David Goldfield

@DavidGoldfield Totally agree and I’m sure you’d like to think that that would happen if not with these but definitely future mainstream devices.

I had a chance to complete surveys from both Doordash as well as with the Walmart app on iOS. I gave the user experience the lowest ratings and explained the issues I'm having with VoiceOver swiping not behaving as expected. With the Walmart app on iOS, swiping stops moving from one item to the next when navigating search results. When in a section of items, moving from one item to the next takes too many swipes; it's just so LinkedIn.
With Doordash, swiping seems to move from one heading or category to the next, rather than moving from one food item to the next.

Tamas G reshared this.

in reply to David Goldfield

I don't have Doordash installed, but have the same issue with Walmart, especially when going thru search results. Also, when swiping thru my favorited items, voice over seems to really drag at times and jump back to the beginning of the list.

The Vatican's Anime Mascot Is Now an AI Porn Sensation.

Meet Luce: Last week, the Vatican unveiled Luce, a Japanese-style cartoon character that will serve as the Catholic Church's mascot for its upcoming jubilee year, as well as its Expo 2025 in...

the original mascot was way too good for the Vatican of all things.

Luce’s design is perfect for an open space preserve or park that gets snowy, or even a boot rental.

"Incorporating wood sawdust and chips into field soils stimulates fungal growth. In particular, incorporation of hardwood material resulted in rapid and long-term stimulation of fungal filamentous growth. The fungi that develop are not the wood rot basidiomycetes found in forests but ascomycetes (sac fungi) that have easy access to the cellulose polymers in shredded wood."

"Stimulating fungi through wood addition fits well with more sustainable agriculture. It suppresses plant pathogenic fungi and the excess nitrogen, which might otherwise wash out, is captured by the fungi. It also increases the overall diversity of soil life by providing fungal-eating soil creatures with a food source."

I just received an email newsletter. Every time there's a picture, I read: Alt text. This means the template is actually telling the creator: "insert alt text here"... and they're just ignoring it. This just goes to show you how People actively ignore accessibility. And this is just a basic thing.

I tried an over the counter spray and it was nice but the Neilmed rinse is a bit more intense and that's one thing that I like about it. I also love Astepro.

Give this song a listen: Service Denied youtube.com/watch?v=zgGhiagbdQ…
in reply to Michael Babcock

I wonder if that was generated by one of the AI music generators like Suno or Udio. It sounds like it.
in reply to Matt Campbell

@matt It's definitely got that strange warbly quality to the vocals, which is the biggest tell that something is AI-generated. Honestly it's not bad overall though.
in reply to Matt Campbell

@matt That was my thought, firstly I was thinking hmm, this sounds good I wonder who recorded it… then my mind went to AI generated.

how on earth can people be so fucking stupid as to leave a child in a car and forget they're there?
in reply to Matt Campbell

@matt no I have more empathy for those people because it can be done by accident and I couldn't imagine the crushing guilt I'd feel if I accidentally left my kid in the car and something horrible happened. I'm talking about people who leave their kid to gamble for 9 hours and then lie to the cops about where they were.

I'm going to go to bed early again. I hope I don't wake up at midnight to more horrific news.

Important question for #DoctorWho fans:

Do we think that, in his younger days, anyone used to call the Brigadier “A.G.”?

I.e. “Hey, A.G. My old friend! I heard they made you a lieutenant! Who’d have thought old A.G. 10-shot double flop would be moving up the ranks?”

in reply to Theta Sigma

Nah, not likely. Probably just Alastair. Even the third Doctor called him that in "Planet of the Spiders." #DoctorWho

Omg. Get over yourself, Doctor. Just do it. Sarah Jane, just slap his hands together. #DoctorWho #GenesisOfTheDaleks
in reply to Tammy Garrison

"Genesis of the Daleks" is such a great episode. I don't get the Doctor's reluctance at destroying all of them but it really was a great story. And that's how the time war got started ...

Supper today was beef lasagna (probably in a can, of course), baked beans, and two of those two-bite brownies that every restaurant in the world has had on its dessert menu at least once.

I must once again urge you: please do not record your abortions on the blockchain.

In addition to being a fan of #DoctorWho I am also a fan of #Babylon5, a wonderful science fiction series which aired in the 1990s. Like other franchises, B5 did have some spin-off novels, though nowhere near the amount of books that we have from other franchises, such as Doctor Who and Star Trek. Unlike those two franchises, there are no more B5 novels being written and the ones which were available are sadly out of print.
I have been slowly making my way through the B5 novels. Today, I just finished reading "Casting Shadows" by Jeanne Cavelos, which is the first book of a trilogy called "the Passing of the Techno-mages." In this first book, we learn quite a lot about the techno-mage order and a lot more about the technology that they use to do what seems like magic. We meet Elric, a member of the techno-mage's inner circle, and his apprentice Galen, whom we later see in the spin-off series "Crusade."
This book explains why the techno-mages decided to leave once they became aware of the existence of an ancient enemy. This is a great prequel to the second season B5 episode "the Geometry of Shadows" and any fan of B5 should consider reading this book.
in reply to David Goldfield

I love Galen so much. Of all the B5 novels authorized by JMS, the Technomage trilogy is probably my favorite.
in reply to Felyashono

@felyashono Thanks for the recommendation. I've only finished the first book in the trilogy so I haven't yet read the next two books but they're next on my list. I started reading a Doctor Who novel but as soon as that's finished I'm moving on to "Summoning Light."

One downside to Braille is that you have to use your brain. And if you're like me, you get words confused because your brain doesn't always register every dot your fingers feel. So, Lyft becomes Loft. Just, uncontracted if you're reading this in Braille.

One good thing about Braille, though, is you get to use your brain. So, if your TTS or narrator doesn't pronounce a name correctly, you can read it in Braille any way you want. And if you're like me, you really notice the things.

Sad, familiar story: A qualified, capable woman gets passed over for an unqualified male who failed his way to the top.

At the time I got married, 13 years ago, I lived in a flat. I liked it cos it was a short walk from the train station. Good for getting home after late nights out.

My wife moved in. One day she said, "The only problem with this flat is that it's a long walk from the station."

Long?

Turns out it's short if you go thru the woods & by the dark underpass, a route a woman would never think of taking.

And that was my 1st lesson in how we inhabit the same space but live in different worlds.
