Looked into if Firefox had support for GNU/Hurd. Someone submitted a patch and spent 10 years rebasing it and being ignored and then told to rebase it again because it was outdated, before it was closed as wontfix since there's no rust compiler.

We’ve got two specials for our regular listeners coming up. On the 23rd December we spend the hour with Mr F, the boss man of our radio network. And on the 24th we meet the mysterious voice behind our emails, and learn about her part in bringing Harry Potter to life for Audible listeners. Stay tuned for that and one more rant from Steven before the year is out. Happy holidays!!

I enjoyed your interview with Sharmin Co, and I love to highlight other people that are doing a great work in training people using mac.
the folks at IBug has done mac and iOS voiceover training for free since the pandemic. they have many free content over at ibugtoday.org/
The late John Panarese Mac For The Blind have done paid Mac custom and purchasable training modules for mac with voiceover,

TalkBack does not offer an option to use computer vision & LLMs (“AI” for the scope of this thread) to describe images lacking alt text.

If you do it in Chrome, it overwrites all the good alt text with, well, crap.

Try it on this page:
srt.csb-cde.ca.gov/jaws/jaws-l…

See how the authored alt text has been replaced by the file name?

Reloading the page does not reset it to the original alt text (nor loading in incognito nor appending query strings).

VoiceOver, JAWS, NVDA all provide options for users to generate missing alt text, however poor and inconsistent it may be.

This is in control of the user and their chosen AT.

Let’s maybe not offload that to the browser when SRs are mostly already doing it (better than the browser).

Yes, this is a message to Firefox as it scrambles for justification to force “AI” into the browser with handwavy ‘for accessibility!’ reasons.

Be less crap than Chrome.
