Vyju nad umělým omezováním prodeje e-knih. Český překlad knihy existuje, vyšel jako e-kniha v roce 2022, ale ke koupi už není, protože vypršela licence. K čemu je tohle komu dobrý? (Ani upirátit se mně ho nedaří, kam jsme se to dostali? :)
Tohle je bohužel běžná praxe převzatá z byznysu s papírovými knihami. Tam se dokonce knihy fyzicky likvidují, když vyprší licence. Bohužel u e-knih neexistují antikvariáty, kde by si je člověk mohl legálně koupit i po ukončení prodeje. K čemu je to dobré? Asi si vlastníci autorských práv myslí, že když to časově omezí jen na pár let, budou moct ta práva v budoucnu ještě několikrát prodat. Realita je ale spíš taková, že skončí licence a nad knihou se zavře voda.
Mas nejaky preferovany filozoficky smer jak na to? Ja si myslim, ze by nejaka statni instituce nebo fond mel koupit prava na vsechny existujici ceske preklady knih a zajistit print on demand (pro analogove i digitalni)!
@mwenisch Kdysi jsem si říkal, že by autorské právo mohlo obsahovat klauzuli, že když to dílo není k mání legálně, můžeš si pořídit kopii libovolným způsobem. Jinak mně přijde společensky trestuhodné, na kolika dílech někdo sedí a legálně si je nepřečteš / neprohlídneš / neposlechneš. (Ale jasně, jsou tu knihovny, kina, …)
Tak to nemas vubec predstavu kolik treba hudby (od vyznamnych muzikantu) existuje jenom v exkluzivnich "klubech" offline i online. V US zaciname spolupracovat s radou umelcu, co hudbu verejne na DSPs nebo jinak vubec neprodava. Da se sirit jenom pres zname a ruzne klubove platformy.

Hi, It seems then 12. 1 as well as the latest beta version on Android cannot anymore fetch other messages than those messages in the inbox folder. I recreated my accounts by importing my the parameters from the PC version of thunderbird that works fine, but I cannot see any message present in the Sent folder or any other folder, except the inbox folder. My mail provider is laposte.net. everything was working fine with the previous versions Same pb occurs with the latest k9-mail appli #thunderbid
We're so sorry and this may be related to an IMAP issue in the recent release. Please go to Settings > [account] > Fetching mail > incoming server and uncheck "Auto-detect IMAP namespace" and leave the IMAP path prefix empty to see if this fixes it. We are working right now on a more permanent fix - please let us know if this helps!

Na, ich habe das jetzt endlich rausgefunden: Die Artikel haben oft ein Seitenlimit, sagen wir mal 10 Seiten. Gesetzt wird mit dem Zeichensatz, den die Zeitung vorgibt. In der Regel muss man aber in einem Artikel so viel erklären, dass es nicht in die 10 Seiten passt. Also, was tun?
Footnotes come to rescue! Die sind in einem kleineren Zeichensatz mit kleinerem Zeilenabstand gesetzt. Also passt da maximal doppelt so viel Text auf eine Seite.

that's the action button above the volume keys. You can set that up to do something in settings, by default if you hold it it switches between silent and normal.

When I was a child, I lived in a housing development, a separate loop from the main road, nothing but houses on both sides for the whole loop. Sounds safe for kids, right? I was utterly forbidden from crossing the street ever, for any reason. In the three years I lived there, two children I knew were flattened by cars. One was in a wheelchair for years, the other had permanent brain damage. And we were lucky to have a sidewalk the whole length of the loop - which would quickly disappear beyond its edge; walking anywhere else was impossible, it was an island in a sea of high-speed roads.
The next development we lived in, the school had a street-by-street map of who was and wasn't allowed to walk to school. It was in theory a 15 minute walk, but we were forbidden because 10 of that would be on a highway with absolutely no accommodations for walking alongside it. There was a secret path through the woods that some kids used. There was a shopping center about as far in the other direction with, again, absolutely no way to walk there (and no busses). I grew up trapped in lonely fortresses in a sea of concrete, and I am still not used to the freedom I have in Europe to just... go places and do things.

What an absolutely terrifying individual. Like, truly Orwellian mindset - in an absolutely literal sense with no exaggeration or dramatisation. Just straight-up believing that your citizens shouldn't have privacy.
We instead must break with the totally erroneous perception of politicians that it is their god-given right to know everything that's happening in innocent citizens' lives.
Hummelgaard is the embodyment of a facepalm. His political opinions are almost always brute force and/or unsofisticated. He has the position he has, because he is willing to push the governments unpopular policies forward. His collegues in government can hide behind him, almost like a meat-shield. He does not understand what he is legislating, as this quote clearly shows.
I somehow like that this time it is not "Woohoo, we won!" It is more like "Stay alert, they'll come back." Next time they do, we will be aware and we will have tools to fight this and hopefully kill it once and for all

I read the latest #Apple event news with extreme, well, just boredom. Partially because I kept thinking, where's the small phone? I don't need a giant screen. Give me a small phone, a phone that will actually fit in my tiny pocket. I'm blind. I don't need a large screen. I am somewhat excited for the update today though. I might just send in my old SE for a battery replacement and a possible screen repair and call it another 5 years.

Evaluating EU based email services, and everyone seems to flaws. @startmail has no calendar, @soverin has no ability to try it without fully committing your domain, @mailbox_org gives an error when I try and register, and has no support contact for non customers, @posteo.de doesn’t allow you to use your own domain, and of course @Tutanota is locked in e2ee service meaning I am forced to use their app (same with Proton).

I'm a bit frustrated at the moment. I printed out the whole documentation and stapled everything together with dividers to form a clearly organized documentation folder. But already a couple of weeks thereafter the new version came. And then the next one. My folder seems to be useless. 😞
@Irisfreundin It's certainly not useless – 99% of the content will still be relevant to the current versions of LibreOffice! We can't stop volunteers updating the guidebooks, but we don't randomly remove big features so the content of the older guidebooks will still definitely be useful to you. Enjoy 😊
Vernünftige #ActivityPub Integration für media.ccc.de wäre doch auch mal was. Es wäre ziemlich cool wenn es sich im Grunde wie ein #PeerTube verhalten würde, so das man einzelnen Channels (Veranstaltungen) oder der ganzen Plattform folgen kann und einzelne Videos direkt boosten kann. Von der Architektur her macht es wahrscheinlich keinen Sinn auf #PeerTube zu wechseln. Aber das Interface zum Fediverse zu emulieren wäre cool.
Ja, das wäre cool! Es muss ja von der Integration her nur publishen können, der Rest is Luxus. Dann könnte man auch direkt in PeerTube abonnieren, etc..

I'd assumed that "kodsnack" was a reference to coders who snack on cod. This seemed like it could be a Euro thing. But I see that in English it's about snacking on code. I like to do that. But it begs the question, if there are cod that code, is it about snacking on the cod or the cod snacking on the code?
