Wonder how much the way your speech synthesizer of choice says your preferred name effects how blind people in particular pick a new name for themself. It wasn't a problem for me, I have yet to find a synth that says my name wrong, but it's common.
@clv0 That's how simple it is to fix, sure. But I use Eloquence, as do many of the people around me, and if the name I like can't be said correctly by Eloquence by default, I'm going to have to constantly correct people. I was just wondering how much stuff like this effects peoples choice process.
Related: If I was ever to change my name (or to name a male child for that matter), I'd pick Daniel. It's the most universal name I came up with, country and language wise.

I already used pass to manage my passwords, but when I quickly needed to check my credit card PIN at the store, I had to fumble around with a terminal on a touch screen. Extremely annoying. That's why I made Identities! Now my PIN is just a few taps away, no terminal required.
There seems to be a UI issue with LibreOffice QT; there is no margin beneath the tabs when using the tabbed interface, whereas if you use the flatpak and force the breeze theme, the tabs look as they ought to with a nice margin beneath them. I'd report the bug, but I'm not getting the email from bugzilla when attempting to create an account. @libreoffice

There was just one problem on Windows, Reaper can take too much ram when you load about 2300 small wave files. I noticed this during preparing files for speech synthesys. Not sure if thei fixed it already.

HELP! I've noticed a program called "Screen Connect Client" running on my #Windows11 PC a couple of times now. Each time, I reboot disconnected from the Internet, find and kill the process, and remove the application ... at least I think it's removed. But it keeps coming back!!

I've seen some spammers on Telegram that leave how are you voice messages instead of texts. One particular one had loud, echoing music in the background, almost like it was recorded at or near a club or something similar. I was quite tempted to reply and ask what was going on in the background. Probably not worth it though.

@Somarasu the thing is, it's not even an inconvenience. You just have to develop a new habit and learn new sources of where to get their food from. You'll have it sorted out very quickly if you actually care. And while you're at it you might even find better / cheaper sources of human food.
15% of that is cyclomatic complexity, which is imo a mostly very stupid metric... Here's what you can do to reduce it: make more methods out of your "complicated" code
@emma I think cyclomatic code complexity do have some value - could we have a graph of code complexity for each function that had a security vulnerability to have some metric? Higher complexity often leads to bugs, especially wrt error handling in C. I’m not saying low complexity doesn’t lead to bugs, though.
@jas @emma yeah, and we have actually worked quite hard over the last year or so to reduce the cyclomatic complexity in curl. Down from some rather extreme values. But not down to the rock bottom strict levels I presume some tools would like it to be.
@cuddlebug looking at include/curl/system.h where a large amount of #ifdefs are used, it is clear that some are accepted but some others are not, quite arbitrarily from what I can tell
There is a germ of truth there, but they are misunderstanding in what contexts "reserved" identifiers may be used. Really a correct linter for C would report double underscore prefixed identifiers anywhere *except for the place they reported the message*. 😂
(Also there are more reserved identifiers than that.)
It's true that a lot of programmers take names without knowing about [lex.name]/3, and a lint for this is appropriate.
It's also true that the whole point of [lex.name]/3 is to create space for implementations to speak about themselves so naming __AMIGA__ is the whole *point*.
Over the years I've come around to the position of treating metrics/ratings/certifications as basically useless unless I can be convinced otherwise, and this would be a prime example of why

As someone who has inherited a large and messy codebase: What kind of code analyzers are actually used by y'all and can be recommended? I'm a bit overwhelmed by the whole topic of static analyzers and code coverage/testing tools :(
first, start by enabling as picky compiler warnings as possible and fix all those issues. Then throw clang-tidy / scan-build at it and they will report more. In curl we then use two commercial ones (free to use for open source): CodeSonar and Coverity, which often find additional issues.
Then recently we also use ZeroPath which finds an additional crazy amount of potential problems.
to wit: an East-West pipeline is too expensive to be financially viable unless
* one of the existing TC Mainline natural gas pipelines is converted to carry oil, AND * there is an export market via the Atlantic, because the volume of oil that would go to Canadian refineries is too small

first: nobody's building new refineries anywhere in N.America, let alone in Southern Ontario lol
second: Hudson Bay is iced in for 7+ months of the year. also much of James Bay is too shallow to allow ships of oil tanker size
third: oceangoing oil tankers are too big to fit up the St Lawrence Seaway. shipping oil on the Great Lakes would require creation of a whole new dirty tanker fleet that doesn't currently exist. also it has been tried before, in the 1950s; the fact that the oil companies built a pipeline through Michigan rather than continuing to ship oil across the lakes tells you basically all you need to know lol

A decade ago, I was an invited expert at a meeting to review the technical architecture of a £330m fraud detection system for Universal Credit at the UK Treasury.
My conclusion was that the proposal was not only massively over-priced (basically fraud-levels of overcharging), but that the system as designed would obviously have issues where automated decisions would leave vulnerable people in dire straits, against the legal requirements.

How does it even make sense for an open-source program that runs on one's own computer to require an account? Even if NV Access is compelled to require the user to log in before they can download the program, people will still be able to circulate copies as they like, and it's actually possible to verify that those copies are unmodified, thanks to Windows code signing.
