Question about @matrix federation...
I currently have a split domain setup with #synapse where my username is amd:amd.im but my server is located at matrix.amd.im
I am going to stand up a new homeserver that uses a subdomain, but I don't whether the new amd:matrix.amd.im user will show up with a bunch of encryption key errors or be seen as a new user.
What subdomain would you pick for your new #selfhosted #matrix homeserver if you were me?

- chat.amd.im (42%, 3 votes)
- conduit.amd.im (0%, 0 votes)

My personal reasons for doing this is that delegation can be broken (I've done it just this week) and requires maintaining extra configuration on a potentially separate piece of software, vs just running cleanly on a subdomain.
The only real advantage it offers is a pretty username, which doesn't matter to me much.

I just use SRV records in DNS to avoid that reliance on a web server on the root domain and it works fine.

I think a subdomain is plenty good for a simple server focused on a single user chatting with their friends.
