A mocked up version of the original text of section B in New York State's Digital Fair Repair Act. This is the version that passed the New York Legislature last spring. It defined “digital electronic equipment” broadly, reading: Digital electronic equipment or "equipment" means any product with a value over ten dollars, adjusted annually by the rate of change in the consumer price index as reported by the bureau of labor statistics of the United States department of labor, that depends for its functioning, in whole or in part, on digital electronics embedded in or attached to the product.

A mocked up version of the previous slide, which uses blue strikethrough and blue text to demonstrate the significant cuts and additions made to section B of New York's Digital Fair Repair Act. This is the final version of the bill that Hochul signed in December.

The definition of equipment removed the value of ten dollars and instead introduces equipment as any hardware product manufactured for the first time, and first sold or used in New York on or after July first of 2023.

The text also has substantial additions, which read that digital electronics are something "for which the original equipment manufacturer makes available tools, parts, and documentation either through authorized repair providers, its own employees, or any authorized third party providers. 'Digital electronic equipment' does not include any product sold under a specific business-to-government or business-to-business contract, which is not otherwise offered for sale directly by a retail seller."
