A six panel comic of Honeydew explaining why they don't like the term high functioning. The comic is titled "Dysfunctional Labeling" and is made by Theresa Scovil.
Panel 1:
A person smiles and says to Honeydew "You're autistic? You must be high functioning autistic, right?"
Honeydew looks surprised.
Panel 2:
Honeydew responds "I don't really like the term "high functioning.""
The person asks "Why not?"
Panel 3:
Narration says "Because people seem to think that it means I'm some sort of genius, then get really upset when I read slowly."
A person looks angry as Honeydew squints while struggling to read a book.
Panel 4:
Narration says "They think that it means I can excel scholastically then are shocked when they find out that I'm a high school dropout."
A person looks shocked as Honeydew shrugs with a crossed out graduation cap over them.
Panel 5:
Narration says "They think that it means they can treat me like I'm not autistic at all, then call me lazy when I ask for help."
A person angrily points at Honeydew while implying they're lazy. Honeydew looks sad.
Panel 6:
Honeydew says to the first person "The truth is that my functioning levels change all the time, so I just forgo functioning labels completely."
The person smiles and replies "Ah, gotcha."
