“Russia warns humanity at risk if West seeks to punish it over Ukraine”

Funny, I wasn’t aware Russia had any humanity left. Oh, you mean…

“The idea of punishing a country that has one of the largest nuclear potentials is absurd. And potentially poses a threat to the existence of humanity…”

In other words, “Russia poses a threat to the existence of humanity.”

Thanks for stating the obvious. We know. The only question is how do we neutralise this threat?

Indeed. No one’s arguing the US is anything but an imperialist power itself. And yet, last I checked, the US isn’t murdering, raping, and torturing people in Ukraine and threatening to blow all of us up if it’s prevented from doing so.

I’m wondering how many people who equate Russia and the US today would go live in Russia if given a choice between the two.

Don't want to live in either one, really. One is screwing up as badly as the other. Just because Russia is screwing up right now and closer to me doesn't mean I forget how the US is kidnapping people all over the world, torturing people in special camps and threatened military action if the ICHR ever tried a US citizen. Or when they threatened military action if oil and gas were traded in EUR instead of USD.

Again, no one’s arguing the US is an angel. Far from it. But if your only two options were to live in Putin’s Russia or the US today, I’ll bet you anything you’d choose the US. Ask yourself why that is. They are not the same.

(And yes, of course, thank goodness those aren’t our only two options.)

I've been to Russia once myself (Samara, about 12, 15 years ago). Was very nice there, loved the baked potatoes that you could buy at small booths along the Danube.

I've also been to the US once, Seattle, similarly long ago.

I loved both places. Can't say where I'd go, though. Wouldn't want Russia because of the international isolation it's currently seeing. Wouldn't want the US, either, because I don't want to be "interrogated" due to a 10 year old Facebook post.

My posts bring all the tankies to the yard.

for *years*, after first incorporating in 2016, then moving to Estonia in 2019, I had people ask me, terrified “but...so close to Russia!?”.

Every single time, I'd reply “you know, when Russia decides to attack an EU & NATO member state, well have waaaayy bigger problems on our head than just my company & house. We'll be thorougly fucked.”

Well, it's 2022, and yupp, we are quite comprehensively fucked ☹️

amazing, really. ouverture with whataboutisms, then over to poor comparisons, it's all in there.

Russia says the West is punishing it, but how can it threaten the entire world because of it and still have any friends.

Like India and China would be going "you said what now?"

.. Unless of course those countries know it's not a real threat.

That said, things aren't as neat as that, it could really happen..

in reply to Aral Balkan

LOL Was just going to say, the tankies are out in force today..

Predictable.

I think Russia may have some humanity left, but there is a distinct lack of humanity in Russian leadership. Both political and business leadership.
