The Queen was a “legend” with the power to speak “to the soul of the whole world”, European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen said.

“Y’know… the world… aka white folks like me… the sons and daughters of colonisers and slave owners. She really spoke to our souls.”, she continued.

But Aral, she’s not…

“In Hanover, the “hübsche Familien” were quasi-noble families who had special access to the court. The Albrecht family have held this status—and key positions in German politics—for more than 500 years.”

“Von der Leyen’s family tree traces a legacy of power and brutality, incorporating not only some of Germany’s most significant Nazis but also some of Britain’s largest slave traders and, through marriage, some of the United States’ largest slave owners. Von der Leyen is descended directly from James Ladson, who owned more than 200 slaves when the Civil War broke out.”

Oh.

@schratze To be fair, why would you have? I’m assuming they don’t go shouting it from the rooftops :)
in reply to Aral Balkan

I mean I did know they were rich nobility. I just didn't know the full extent of it

But they can't be that bad, they even make music: discogs.com/de/release/7110068… (Yes, that is Ursula von der Leyen on the left) 😉 Her father was involved in the "Celler Loch" incident: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celle_Ho…

There is probably a reason why this is put to the surface now. At the same time it’s good to know that she doesn’t have any slaves and are to my knowledge not a nazi herself. I’m not here to whitewash her in any way, only to say there’s a war going on in Europe, and it’s not only on the battlefield.
