Depends on the pizza...

Hawaiian: sure
Chicken & bacon: probably not

Also, why the privacy & encryption tags on this post...?

every person who said "hell no" in my surroundings then, out of curiosity, ate a piece of pizza with it when I ordered one and said "it's not terrible but it's okay".

only if your appetite twins you to do it. So yes if you want and no if you don't.
This is the same debate as always and the answer with those is always the same, do what suits you in that moment. Taste is subjective.

I'm italian and I was initially sceptic about pineapple on pizza. Then I tried it and it was good!

wow! As long, as you struggle with these kind of questions - we do not have real problems.

Pizza is an Italian product of excellence.
In 2009, Neapolitan pizza was registered with the European Union as a traditional speciality guaranteed dish.
In 2017, the art of making Neapolitan pizza was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.
This is the real pizza, all the others are bad imitations:

I only discovered pineapple on pizza with a Hawaiian pizza in the 1980s. Canadian bacon and pineapple with extra cheese. I now put pineapple on all my savory pizzas. (Interestingly enough, if you make a dessert pizza with apple and berries on there the pineapple does not go well!). On a spicy, greasy, hot savory Pizza that burst of clean clear acidity and sweetness is like Christmas time in your mouth! You don't want it in every bite, but you wanted somewhere on there!

No, assolutamente, no! Non pensarci! To Italians, this is a sacrilegious act.
