Time it takes for a hacker to brute force your password in 2022 #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth

Good to know: Tutanota checks your password upon sign-up and makes sure it's strong enough. Secure your emails now! - And activate second factor authentication. 😉

It is important to note that "numbers, upper and lower case letters, symbols" is not necessarily the best choice for a password.

I encourage people to look into criteria (and myths) about good passwords according to modern standards and security experts.

Of course, there is a related XKCD comic on password strength. :) A somewhat accessible discussion of factors to consider can be found here:

@floppy Yes, you are absolutely right. We have a blog post on this as well, should have added it to the toot: https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/how-create-strong-password/

i would have kept using tutanota if not for the annoying wait period for new accounts

@poofbirb This usually only happens when you sign up from a shared IP, e.g. VPN or Tor. Please try your home IP, then I'm sure there will be no wait period! Thanks for understanding, it's difficult to allow sign-up without a phone number & make sure no spammers come onto the system!
