Since the old bill died with the last government I see they haven’t wasted any time tabling a new one again to age restrict “pronographic” content in the name of protecting children.
This one just had its first reading in the senate. Please contact your MPs to try and get this one stopped early this time.
Last time it almost made it the entire way through and into law.

Not only are there privacy and security concerns with uploading your data to a third party to verify your age, but this further pushes the nonsense that anyone using the web should use their “real identity” and that we must censor parts of the web ”we don’t like” in the name of protecting children from the horrors of ~ gasp ~ sex.
If this go through, it becomes very easy to start redefining the definition of “pornography” to include

Text descriptions, depictions and information about queer and LGBTQIA+ related content.
Talk of “sex stuff” is inherently wrapped up in LGBTQIA+ identities, and to the kinds of people introducing these bills they see our identities as sexually perverted fetishes, and they will not stop at “porn”.

If you’re a parent and you don’t want your kids to see certain things on the internet, A) Good luck with that, and B) Parent your own damn kids instead of trying to get the government to force everyone to go along with your puritanical ideals nonsense.
I’m getting sick and bloody tired of governments using “we must protect the children” as an excuse to make “real user identities” happen.
