Okay y'all. I often tell people not to cry wolf or preemptively panic about legislation.

BUT THIS IS THE WEEK TO CALL SENATORS TO STOP THE KIDS ONLINE SAFTY ACT (#KOSA)

They're making real attempt to sneak it through. We just need ONE Senator to object

Senator Cantwell has told reporters she plans to "hotline" #KOSA.

This is insane. The bill is substantively opposed by dozens of LGBTQ, human rights, racial justice, & abortion rights groups.

74 more LGBTQ groups just came out against it last week. lgbttech.org/_files/ugd/d77b01…

A "hotline" basically means they will try to move #KOSA by "unanimous consent." If just one Senator objects, then the hotline will fail. Sen Wyden already publicly opposes #KOSA. Everyone should encourage him to object. But others should join him too.

It seems like Senator Cantwell's goal here is to get this off her plate. She wants to tell the pro-KOSA groups "sorry, I tried" and put the blame on someone else. Pretty shameful, honestly, given she acknowledge during the markup the bill still has issues re: impact on LGBTQ.

So, this is serious and everyone should pay attention. It's part of a real effort to advance #KOSA before the end of the year. But it's also very likely to fail as long as we make a lot of noise. Part of the goal is to "flush out" where there is opposition. Challenge accepted.

Everyone should call Senators who have expressed concerns or haven't cosponsored #KOSA and say that unless ALL of their concerns have been addressed, they should put a hold on the bill. That includes

@SenMarkey
