@cordova5029 @BorrisInABox speaking of, I wrote to techmoan to tell him about it, as he mentioned the album in one of his patreon specials, and he just ordered a vinyl copy for himself. I did say I'd ship him a free one as I have a few here for just such a reason, but he wouldn't let me.
@cordova5029 It was in the early 80's. Sony had PCM adapters you could buy to plug into your beta or VHS recorder for 14 or 16-bit stereo recording and playback. It was kind of the precursor to DAT.
@cordova5029 The interesting thing is that you could technically have both analog and digital at the same time on one HiFi VHS tape. Digital on the video track, analog stereo on the audio. Not sure if anyone ever did that.
@BorrisInABox by looking at a laser disc i expected it to crackle like vynal. Then in like, 7th grade, yes, late for this, but my English teacher had some thing on ld, and I heard it.
@BorrisInABox cd hole in the center. You do, not, wanna touch the surface of it. Usually you don't wanna go touching the surface of a regular record either, but ld is a lot less forgiving.
@cordova5029 @BorrisInABox Even heard myself on hi8 tape, but in the form of Tascam DA-38 and DA-98 decks, not the original camcorder style use it was intended for.
