@fireborn Modern Rockbox with TTS would be an interesting undertaking. The code to do this should still be there somewhere, there was a Slovakian proof-of-concept fork that actually implemented it. Shame that eSpeak is GPL 3.0, otherwise it would have been implemented in the mainline long ago.

@fireborn well, the Victor Stream 3rd is a similar price to the 512GB version of this with a 3000MA battery.
Sure, with Stream I get different features, but I'll never use their TTS and don't listen to Podcasts.
Rockbox is so infinitely adjustable that it's no contest, I'll be getting one of these when finance permits.

@fireborn I like it because, although I now have access to the tts the way I want on my phone, I still can't:
Use it for over 20 hours without a recharge.
Operate it with a damp hand, or just a finger through fabric.
Have over a thousand books available at any given time without wasting valuable storage for other things.
Know that, if I use up all the battery, I've not lost access to GPS or other vital resources.
Take it wherever I go; it clips to anything I wear.
Listen privately at any time, including in bed without having sharp things in my ears.

@fireborn I didn't mention my different profiles, either.

* Bath mode locks most keeypresses, plays for an hour minimum, not pausing between book chapters and starting the next one automatically if I finish.
*bed time plays quieter, pausing at the end of each chapter or every 15 minutes minimum, and lets me go back through a track rather than skipping to the previous one if I press the left key.
* Transport mode does a bunch of optimising of the eQ and volume so I can hear in louder environments.

And so on. SO much customisability!
