A couple of little quail biddies on my back gate. You can almost hear their furtive, indecisive conversation. #quorb

Photo of a pair of California quail in the female colorway--plump, driftwood grey birds with dainty white eyebrows, little black pull-tab crests kewpie-ing up out of their foreheads, and wonderful, quill-like basketry markings around their lower bodies like those little foam nets you find on Asian pears in the supermarket. The birds are perched next to each other on top of the red-slatted gate of a chain-link fence, the near one looking up and off towards eir right at some sound we cannot see and the other leaning down to peer over into the yard, getting ready to flump down to the grass where the other quail wait, grazing.
