First thing I tried was setting Emacspeak-play-program to point to the sox play binary. Tried setting it through customize (I'm an Emacs noob, only started learning elisp yesterday), as well as directly using setopt, setq, and setq-default (yes I have little idea of what I'm doing 😝). No luck, and strangely, when setting it through customize, it would cause Emacspeak to behave weirdly, and many Emacs commands like kill buffer and quit stopped working

Using C-H V emacspeak-play-program <ret> shows that it is set to nil, and has the initial value "/usr/local/bin/play", which is correct for the new-installed version of sox. I'm thinking this is a moot-point though, as it plays the startup sound just fine, presumably through the swiftmac server since that's the behaviour specified in the docs for when emacspeak-play-program is nil.

Complicating matters is the fact that I'd like to use the pan-chimes theme if at all possible, but the copy of Emacspeak 60.0 I downloaded seems to only support 3d and chimes, according both to Emacspeak-sounds.el and Emacspeak-sounds-select-theme. I tried copying pan-chimes over from a Debian install, but it wouldn't let me set it interactively, and setting it in init.el made no difference.

My setup is as follows:
* macOS Sonoma 14.5 (installed via OpenCore Legacy Patcher)
* Emacs+ 29.1 (installed via the d12frosted/homebrew-emacs-plus brew tap)
* Emacspeak 60.0 (downloaded from Github releases)
* The newer swiftmac Emacspeak speech server
