conversation id can work for both mucs and dms where as a chat id implies a muc, at least to my old timey chat knowledge.

I still call it a JID.

I generally find "Conversations" too generic and also difficult/long to pronounce. I wished a "themed" name and mascout, which makes the whole story stand out and easier to remember. For example I find the parrot of snikket quite nice when I want to refer my parents/friends to its app.

Why not chat *address*? People are used to email addresses and it will remind them of something with an @ in it.

JID would be better but seems taken by Cisco

I voted for "chat ID" but like others have said, "chat address" seems to me the most appropriate.

just an idea. Maybe naming XMPP IM network (giving it its own cool name) would give us an opportunity to create a cool name for XMPP address? It wouldn’t be attached to any project and could be easier to remember and use by the users?
