Please don't make this a new trend. 😕

(issue closed by bot because the user filing the issue has not starred the repository...)

If you like the project please consider to like *here* and share *here* and I would be very happy if you leave a comment.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Ew, that's gross. Also auto-closing after a certain time is frustrating. I saw one years old issue recently that people are commenting on every month so it doesn't expire.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

it's disgusting the amount of orange people saying that it's ok and reasonable in the comments. Orange site keeps surprising even one already knows it's one of the worst holes of the internet.

GitHub has ruined things. This nonsense never happened on Sourceforge or CodePlex. Or on Bugzilla or Mantis instances.

throw eggs at the devs, put them in trash cans, give them swirlies, bully them till they stop

it's the last thing that would make me want to star a repoâ€Ļ đŸ¤Ļ‍♂ī¸
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

How to make me not want to star your project (I literally star every project I find remotely interesting).
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

when @BrodieOnLinux made the video on how bots closing issues might be problem, I thought isn't he overreacting. I guess I was wrong

To be fair, the project in question seems to have stopped this. It's an awful practice nonetheless.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Whooot?

You cannot report issues unless you "starred" the repository?

If it helps I can *stare* at it in disbelief for a few minutes.

in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Christ. What is even the point. I think at that I would be doing my best to find a replacement.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

This project in question reverted that. And it may even be in violation with GH ToS.

Y'know, most of the time when I report a bug, it's as a contribution to the project. The fix itself is rarely useful to me because I've either patched it myself or worked around it.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

All these started with the 'stale issues' bot. Closing issues automatically based on activity, instead of its merit is a brain-dead concept, IMO. This tendency arises from the social-media-attention-economy where online activity is projected as a status symbol. By promoting the idea that open issues are bad, they're also conditioning people into performing free labor.

I get the appeal of filtering requests for free work, by some minimal friction. But GitHub starts? Really? đŸ˜Ŧ
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

more than 50% of the people watching this repo have not starred it. What are you waiting for?
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

how to make it very clear that nobody should use whatever is in this repo ever:
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

@|all stop using platforms with such incentives.
i just noticed someone's auto-generated "my year on github" video. đŸ¤ĻđŸģ‍♂ī¸
seems like "too embarrassing" does not exist any more.
can we please try to work without all these instant gratification dopamine pumps?

what repo is this for? I'd like to avoid using that product if possible
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Just wait until the devs ask for logs or backtraces.

"âŖī¸ This request is marked as wontsubmit as you have not yet starred my user account. Please kindly consider giving a star to my account. Your support means a lot to me. Thanks for your understanding. After you become a stargazer, please also reply to this message with the keyword understood. Afterward, I will upload the desired log files and backtraces for you. Once again, your support is much appreciated. Cheers."

"Stars Don't Mean Shit", takes on a new level of meaning.

I recall a blogpost back in the day along these lines by @dmethvin. I can't find it though...

in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Reminds me of a repository in Nextcloud I hit recently which limits most of its functionality to contributors only, and you are advised to open and get a PR merged.
