So for this college class, we're using apache on windows for whatever reason, and I was trying to install xampp but the installer is not accessible. Has anyone had any experience installing xampp on windows? They do have a vm that I can access through vSphere but the web client doesn't let me use the entirety of my keyboard, like the windows, alt, and control keys so I can't get to the run dialog.

@miki Right. But they specifically want me to use windows. If I was able to access their vm, they've got everything set up already but as I said the web client is kinda broken. I tried getting vmware workstation because apparently you can connect to vSphere vms from in there, but since they've merged with Broadcom they have this weird account stuff and I can't seem to create one, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

Is there a reason why WSL won't work / did they prohibit it? I mean, that is technically Windows, and "I need this for accessibility" is usually a good enough excuse in these circumstances.

@miki Fair point I suppose. All I really need to do is get a web server up and running that has php and mysql. I just thought it'd just be easier to figure out how to get with the program as quickly as possible, since we start really getting into it on Tuesday.

If you have admin rights on the computer you're using, that's if it's your computer and not theirs, that would be the easiest option I think.

Just get Ubuntu through WSL, and then look for "how to install X on Ubuntu" and you'll find plenty of tutorials. Asking Chat GPT will probably work too, with the usual caveats.

@miki I *constantly* have this issue where WSL2 just, cannot connect to the internet. It's not even DNS, pinging IP addresses doesn't work!
