A little plein air sketching, to watercolor later. I'm not coloring in this scorching sun!
View of the north apse of Florence cathedral, or part of it, framed between buildings on a street that leads to it.
A quick pencil sketch of the previous scene, on watercolor paper. Just notes, few details, to color in.
Ponte Vecchio in all its magic hour golden glory, as viewed from the west, from Ponte Santa Trinita. This is the only microsecond window where there are no people in the frame.

The old bridge has three spans with stone arches, and a bunch of houses built on it (jewelry shops, really, what with Benvenuto Cellini having a bust right in the middle of the bridge). Also, a passage that some asshole rich dude built for himself, to avoid the commoners killing him when he was en route downtown. Centuries later they would invent armored luxury cars for that.
A pencil sketch of Ponte Vecchio on watercolor paper. This one with more detail, because sketching little houses is fun.

"You can't rush art", said the procrastinator, as he took out last month's sketches for coloring, finally. #watercolor
Two small sketches of Firenze, on watercolor paper, just starting to get color on them. A water container, brush, watercolor kit, and assorted trinkets on my table.

Maybe "you can't rush art" came from someone waiting for each layer to dry. We'll never know.
The two previous watercolors of Firenze, now more developed. I have started to add building details and some lines. The Firenze cathedral is thankfully very geometric, and maybe the buildings that frame it in the narrow street can just have an idea of window shutters and a few pipes, and shade to bring out the light of the cathedral in the center. The bridge is detailed but seems manageable; I don't need an exact copy but rather the idea of organized complexity from something that grew over time. Also, the reflections on the water seem to take more importance as I look at the original photo.
