It's done! #chatcontrol is officially off the table after the danish EU council presidency drops it for good. It's a small but important victory!

Thanks again to @chatcontrol for coordinating grassroots interventions, and everyone else, especially on the fediverse, for joining efforts to fundamentally preserve end-to-end encryption 💜 Also to @Mer__edith and @signalapp for their strong end-to-end encryption work and stances.

Of course, vigilance remains important.

@link2xt as far as EU decision processes go, the current danish EU council presidency that has been leading the efforts to implement mandatory client side scanning, dropping the effort, is significant. It's not just "someone" saying something. These decisions take time and if they don't change course now, they risk making any (voluntary) client side scanning illegal. Will there be renewed efforts to break e2ee? Of course. But it's a victory for now nonetheless.

The link is literally about someone saying something. What matters is the proposal submitted.

I cannot even find what the actual changes are or if the changes to the documents were made already.

patrick-breyer.de/en/half-good… linking to the same article says that the requirement to deanonymize all messenger users will remain in place.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead

Very few people, with skills and tools already available - made mobilizing and organizing possible, to fight and win, against the behemoth Chat Control.

Its really big and beautiful.
Thank you to the person who made fightchatcontrol.eu :)
