Of course it is very sad that the 3 million people of Jamaica have to endure the lethal torrential floods, landslides, & ~300km/h winds of Hurricane Melissa. But surely we can all agree that is the necessary sacrifice we all must make to ensure that the murderous thugs running the world’s fossil fuel industries continue to enlarge their absurdly huge incomes they insist are their right and due.

Early this morning, my sister passed away. Hours later, #Hurricane #Melissa made landfall. All this happened on Oct. 28, 2025. Now I really won't ever forget the date of either occurance. It's weird how life sometimes happens that way.

I hate that anyone named Melissa will now be associated with this potentially deadly hurricane. I have a friend named Katrina who changed her name to Kat after the 2005 hurricane killed nearly 1400 people.

Maybe we could just name hurricanes/cyclones after the oil companies and the billionaires who profit off them? Have to reuse the names a lot, but we can just add numbers, like we do for Kings or Popes: ExxonMobil III or BP XIX.

For those who don't understand how Americans relate a waffle restaurant to weather events:

Waffle House restaurants are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They do NOT close for ANY reason except impending catastrophe.

So when Waffle House reports that all locations in a city have been closed due to weather, that area is most likely fucked after the storm is over.
