I have a #samsung #galaxy #s5 , still on #android 4.4.2 and with no play store installed.

The stock updater fails, I guess because of lacking SSL support because of 4.4.2.

Any ideas how to do this without kies? Install play store from apkmirror, hoping it will update SSL certificate chain, and try the updater again?

I hope I'll find a play store version for 4.4.2... 😰

Für alle alten Smartphones die noch lauffähig sind konnte ich bisher eine "Second Live" Anwendung finden. So z.B. als Webcam am PC und als Mausersatz, als DashCam in Auto und als Webradio an der Hifi-Anlage.

Nun suche ich eine Möglichkeit die NFC-Funktion des Handys am PC zu nutzen.
Also ein altes Handy (Android 8) als "NFC-Reader" kabelgebunden am PC einzusetzen.

Hat wer eine Idee dazu? Wäre sehr dankbar.🙏

I’d forgotten how nice using Android can be. A good, accurate onscreen braille keyboard that actually allows you to use all six Braille dots at once, so responsive it feels like I’m using a computer, ugh yes. Oh and Samsung TTS. It's really. nice, although I’ve heard that Google TTS on Pixels have gotten very good too. USB C, works with standards not against them, 5G before my iPhone SE, Dolby Atmos, which, before it came to iPhones, one of the big Apple fans on Youtube said couldn't be done because of physics, with a "dude it's science," kind of laugh. Yet, now Apple is like "the future of audio isn’t high quality, it's spatial audio." I mean, Android of course isn’t perfect. TalkBack has maybe a few more years to go before it has all the features of VoiceOver. But my goodness, when I get tired of bugs and focus issues and Braille issues and a sluggish CPU or unoptimized software, I can turn on Android and just zoom around the interface.

I was on an Android mailing list today, and I was asking about Ebook readers that don’t require the screen to be on to continue reading, and that don’t pause at the end of sentences so much like AtVoice reader. I forget what I didn’t like so much about Speech Central. And one response was like “I think you’re thinking about Audible here. Why would you want to rewind or fast forward in Ebooks?” And I just, I feel kinda bad for Android users. It’s like they just don’t have any good options at all so they are kind of molded by the system they use to not even expect better. Like, I get that Mac users are the same with MUD clients and games, and Linux users have just taught themselves to stick with Pidgin, FireFox/Chrome/Brave, Pluma or the default editor, Audacity, and LibreOffice. But my goodness. It’s really sad when we don’t expect better from our tools. And yes, this is my observations so may not be 100% accurate or palatable from aforementioned users of Mac, Linux, and Android. Also I’m gonna try a Ebook reader called [Evie - The eVoice book reader](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lenntt.evoicereader) which was recommended to me in the same message. :) So it’s not like they’re not helpful, they are. Google Play Books just, has squished expectations into the ground.

When I pick up my Android phone, I really start to love it. The snappy responsiveness, the stability, and the good voices in Samsung TTS. And then my alarm goes off and I have to try to learn the TTS over the alarm sound. I’ll try using Google’s Clock app instead of Samsung’s app, but yeah that just, makes me remember how disjointed Android/Samsung is in accessibility support.

¹ oops, 9. 1 update had to be rolled back as my scanner yelled an alarm due to added trackers – a no-go in a root app caring for backups of personal data. Issue opened upstream, updates temp-disabled.

Recently I've found a lightweight modern #opensource #audio #recorder app for #Android called #RecordYou. I like it that much so I've attempted to submit some #screenReader #accessibility improvements.
