so #Mozilla email is finally coming?

I hope they're partnering with an existing provider and rebadging an existing service. Mozilla haven't got the greatest reputation for maintaining services. RIP #Notes and #Lockwise

this is a good read. It really makes me hopeful about the future of #Thunderbird. It feels like it's in good hands with good leadership and an authentic vision. I hope some of that bleeds over to #Mozilla and subsequently #Firefox. Because JFC, there doesn't seem to be the same level of cohesiveness or vision over there.

Just now I spent 20.- CHF wisely; thunderbird by mozilla depends on our #donation. Maybe you can #help to keep this useful project going in the future?

From the Firefox 109.0 changelog:

„The native HTML date picker for date and datetime inputs can now be used with a keyboard alone[…]“

Nice! Always great to see native elements being improved.

Firefox Sync is awesome and I use it all the time. It'd be awesome if #Mozilla would make it easier to have a self-hosted option for this too. I know it *can* be done (I played with it a bit) but it was very hard to get going and I eventually had to give up.

Here's a very early implementation of #Firefox Sync running in Thunderbird Daily!

The bones are there and the foundation is solid.

Though it may be called something else by the time we launch it in Thunderbird 115 (such as Thunderbird Sync or #Mozilla Sync), it's a feature we're THRILLED about putting in your hands.

I’m not going to use bloody bugzilla, so if anyone from Mozilla sees this, your enterprise flow for adding certificate authorities (CAs) to Firefox on Linux fails on Fedora Silverblue.

Since Fedora Silverblue is seen as the possible future of Fedora/Red Hat, you folks might want to talk to the Fedora folks about it and come up with a solution.

Wonderful holidays and a happy new year!
🎄🍭🎅🎁☃️ 🍾🥂🎆

I wish you all the best for the next year #Thunderbird 🐦. And now have a nice time with your friends the #Firefox 🦊 and the #Mozilla 🦖😀

@mozilla

#Mozilla is creating a fediverse instance. What is Mozilla?

• A “not-for-profit” that owns multiple for-profit businesses and pays its CEO $5.6M
• Gets ~83% of its revenue (~$500,000,000) every year from surveillance capitalist Google
• Makes a browser that protects your privacy (*some configuration required)
• Is now a VC…

This is the best we can expect from Silicon Valley/capitalism. Question is: can we do better than that?

… Or, in what a previous head of public policy at Mozilla told me while we were chatting before our talks at a data protection conference:

“Aral, we’re just another Silicon Valley tech company, I don’t understand why you’re holding us to a such a higher standard.”

When I finally managed to pick my jaw off the floor the only retort I could manage was: “But that’s not what you tell people.”

Nice to have you on board @mozilla, but we need more than another instance:

"If you buy into the idea that #Mozilla should be spending resources on #Mastodon, at the very least [they] could do something meaningful like finance and supply labour to build better moderation tools, end to end #encrypted DMs or some other meaningful effort. Yet this is not what is proposed."

Welcome to the fediverse! #Mozilla

In early 2023, #Mozilla will stand up and test a publicly accessible instance in the #Fediverse at Mozilla.Social.

Welcome to the #Fediverse, @mozilla! Yeah, let’s get moving! 💚🌱

"In early 2023, #Mozilla will stand up and test a publicly accessible instance in the #Fediverse at Mozilla.Social. "

"Now is the time, as we’re living through the consequences of 20 years of centralized, corporate-controlled social media, with a small oligopoly of large tech firms tightening their grip on the public square."

Thunderbird starts and decides (without asking me) to open a web page in my default browser to beg about donation.

Thunderbird being hypocritical again:
- they're saying donations are what keep them alive yet they just bought out K-9
- they're saying they're "privacy-respecting", yet they open a tracking web page at every start of Thunderbird

The funniest: the links, even in the donate page, contains trackers.

Seriously @thunderbird stop acting like the good guys.

if only #firefox didn't become such a shitty experience... Thanks, #mozilla /s

"The # # web browser is finally beginning to catch up in a market where every competitor has an online language # service feature. Firefox recently debuted its long-awaited #-preserving on-device translation service."

So, my first #
# # poll has ended. the results are here: https://mastodon.social/@Unatributed/108450137107624580

Unfortunately not a lot of respondents, but the ~60/40 split was enough to get me to install vivaldi.

Unfortuantely I won't be sticking with it. Why? My main reason for installing it was the new mail client, which reminded me of the old # and # browsers. Alas, the mail client doesn't work the way I need it to, and there are lots of forum posts about problems with it...

Basically, “are we getting away with it?” (Whatever ‘it’ is now… whatever the catch is this time… to be fair, I’ve stopped caring. Folks seem want to believe what they want to believe and don’t appreciate it much when you point out even the most glaring issues with their darlings.)

I am really happy about this announcement from #: a free, completely local, # engine. Also you can run the training pipeline yourself. And, it can translate your input in forms to the language of the site. https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/local-translation-add-on-project-bergamot/

What would Firefox be if it was private by default?

It would be LibreWolf.
