I don’t really get those people and projects creating @discord@twitter.com channels when instead we have @matrixdotorg@twitter.com. No proprietary stuff, adds and all the annoyances that come with Discord. Now they started to send Nitro ads as private messages! Pick wise or you become the product.

I sigh every time I see decent open source project resorting to #Discord instead of #Matrix for chat opportunities. I think your video channel needs to post something like "Matrix is very limited: #DEBUNKED".

Until video conferencing greatly improves, voice channels with push-to-talk are a thing, bot management more streamlined, giphy / tenor integration, proper roles / permission system added, server customizable sidepanel for organization, etc. is implemented I don't see it supplanting Discord.

I say this as someone that leads an open source org with a Matrix Space. Discord may be proprietary but it's objectively better in many ways, so it should not surprise people that Discord is picked

so when's full space/room removal coming to matrix? if the answer is still "soon", maybe that's why
