Last weekend, we reached another milestone in our efforts to have all Debian packages versioned in Salsa (Debian's GitLab instance). Out of around 39000 packages, less than 2000 are not in Salsa! Check trends.debian.net/#vcs-hosting for some cool graphs #debian #salsa #09

Wow, I'm old enough to remember the calls for packaging standardization (with cdbs being a failed attempt at that). That graph makes it look like we're almost there!

A graph titled "Build Systems". X axis is by date starting at 01/2006 and ending at 01/2026), Y axis is number of packages (starting at 0, ended around 40,000).

The graph starts in 2006 with around 9,000 packages being a mix of debhelper, 500 'other', and just under 1000 build systems using cdbs (probably around 85% debhelper).

The graph ends in 2026 with around 38,000 packages, of which the vast majority are using 'dh'. There's still probably about 500 using cdbs, and another 1,000 using debhelper. That's like 96% using dh.
