But what happens when someone new tries to step in?
My partner just published the first post in a new blog series called âLinux: Helpful or Headache?â Itâs a personal account of what it feels like to stare into the abyss of Linux as a blind user who hasnât even installed it yet. This isnât a âhow toâ guide. Itâs not a technical tutorial. Itâs a moment of honest vulnerability and curiosity in the face of a system thatâs infamous for treating newcomers like an inconvenience.
Part One â An Introduction

Sheâs totally blind. Sheâs used to Windows and iOS â platforms where accessibility is at least visible, documented, and supported. Linux? From the outside, it looks like a twisted obstacle course: too many distros, zero onboarding, no centralized help, and a community that can't agree on anything except that "you should have read the wiki."
And yet⌠sheâs jumping in anyway.
This first post talks about that pre-installation limbo. The âwhat the hell even is a distro?â stage. The existential dread of picking between MATE and GNOME when you donât even know how to pronounce âFlatpak.â The raw, unfiltered feeling of not knowing what you donât know â and doing it anyway, because the itch to explore is stronger than the fear of breaking stuff.
Thereâs no cheerleading here. No âyay open source!â No tidy beginner tutorial with copy-paste terminal commands. Just one blind woman staring down the reality that Linux doesnât come with a support number, and deciding to try it anyway â not because itâs easy, but because she wants to learn, grow, and maybe even call bullshit where itâs due.
And if you're wondering â no, I didnât write or co-write it. This is her voice, her experience, her story. But it does tie in beautifully with the nightmare Iâve been chronicling in my own posts, from a totally different vantage point.
If youâve ever tried to onboard someone to Linux, especially someone disabled, this is what it actually looks like. And if youâve ever told someone âLinux is great, just pick a distro,â read this and realize how much we take for granted.
Go read it. Boost it. Follow the series. She's only just getting started.

Google has signed a contract with Israel to supply Tech support used in the Palestinian genocide. A US$1.2 billion deal, with Amazon in the mix.
It's not the first time Google has been implicated in this type of crime.
Google obeys the every command of Trump-musk fascism, the Gulf of Mexico is just the one example that makes you laugh.
So when you have google main sponsor of FOSDEM and debian going dancing to GSoC, and many others in the FLOSS and Open movement doing the same,
I say to you straight out:
You're embracing fascism, you're legitimizing genocide, you're part of the problem!
