Upgrades by users immediately after a Debian release place a significant load on the mirror network. In July 2019 the release of buster saw nearly 1GiB/s peak file downloads for several days on some networks, whilst in August 2021 the releasing bullseye caused 1.05GiB/s. That's over 840Gbps network bandwidth! More statistics are available at https://www.accum.se/technical/statistics/ftp/monitordata/ #ReleasingDebianBookworm #Debian

I'll be one of them, but with 1Gbps download hopefully I'll be done quick :-P

Some more of the cluster serving as the tier0 mirror for Debian images: https://mirror.accum.se/about/

The old numbers are rrd-wise smoothed too, so those are several hour averages for past years. The 5-minute peaks were closer to our capacity of 20Gbit/s.

would it be a good time to fire up some torrent clients to help spread the load on our small vpses that can chip in a couple of TB/day?
