This Christmas, I wrote an #interactiveFiction game for my kids. It's my first IF effort, and they seemed to enjoy it! You can play or download "The Grumpy Cricket (And Other Enormous Creatures)" from https://www.complete.org/the-grumpy-cricket/ or see the blog post at https://changelog.complete.org/archives/10618-the-grumpy-cricket-and-other-enormous-creatures . It's released under the GPL v3.

What kind of computer did the 6-year-old play it on, and which interpreter?
in reply to Matt Campbell

@matt The three of them played together, with my middle child at the keyboard. They were using my old vt510 connected to a Raspberry Pi running frotz.

Oh wow. I still don't have any kids of my own (and likely never will), but I'm afraid I spoiled my nieces and nephew with modern consumer tablets (Amazon Fire tablets) years ago. Still, maybe I can get them interested in the web version, which I will now check out to see how well it works with a screen reader.

@matt I don't know how well the web version does with a screen reader; it was generated as part of the toolkit with Inform 7. But, I believe fizmo-console would work very well with a text reader, and it should be able to run the Z-code (.z8) version.
