Apparently the first "Beastie" (never named as such by Kirk) was drawn by the artist for girlgeniusonline.com Phil Foglio

I learned this at the BSDCan 2025 talk Kirk gave!

that "daemon" was by Foglio, but the actual Beastie was by John Lasseter of Disney/Pixar (Toy Story fame)
