Don't ip address connections bypass the resolver steps? What about proxies? (Are there differences in the different ways to specify proxies? Does curl support PAC scripts? What about when the proxy itself requires a resolution and connection? Preproxies?) What about other protocols? (It looks like it supports a lot...) Unix sockets?
