I used curl to test my handwritten HTTP 2.0 server. That includes sending chunked, compression support, SSL with the 3 basic auth methods, all the various verbs, etc. I could write curl in a 3 day weekend comfortably.

Collected quotes and snippets from people publicly sneezing off or belittling what curl is, explaining how easy it would be to make a replacement in no time with no effort or generally not being very helpful. These are statements made seriously.

I think a lot of people like this have no idea that the way you implement http isn't by typing `import "http";` ... They forget that all the gazillion libraries they import to write their little project are actually written by someone at some point, and that making those libraries and those tools so simple that you forget they are even there is what the real art of programming is about.
