At this point no one should be using voice activated anything unless it's an accessibility requirement, and that really needs serious consumer rights scrutiny and oversight. No for-profit corporation can be trusted (and neither can quite a few nonprofits for that matter).

That's why we need lot more independent systems on mobile platforms, such apps as well and open, transparent, and well audited code. Open source is a must have those days. There's no excuse anymore. Especially when we are handled like a bunch of cows or even digital slaves after the 9/11 by all the IT world ruling corpos, govs etc. Without that very fast we all will be sitting ducks totally helpless.

With Android 11 (released September 2020) and later, apps cannot access the microphone or camera while running in the background, even if users have granted apps explicit permission to do so.
