If you need an intermediate solution: physical bank cards from Revolut should still work…

The convenience of opening the gates with the phone is gone.
Also, if I start a journey with Arriva or Blauwnet and then switch to NS, I'll be forced to use a different card with them which means the trip would be broken into two separate ones. I wonder whether NS would compensate that price difference caused by them. (But I'm probably too lazy to try that.)

in reply to Suzanne ‘bionic’ Veerman • • •@smveerman @marlies I don't think this is a decision on bank side. Before it was banned, this charging straight after checkout happened even with Revolut cards. Actually it's still the case with GVB. It started soon after the RTL coverage two years ago.
Daily caps are not an issue - GVB has them - bigger issue is probably the fee per transaction. I'm pretty sure the transaction worth € 0,07 ended up as a negative income.
