Due to lack of interest/orders for the BT Speak basic, Blazie technologies will only be selling the BT Speak pro for purchase.
in reply to DAVID WOODBRIDGE

I think this makes good business sense. They have to invest their limited budget where there is a market.
in reply to Allison Meloy

Oh this is interesting and I think your take makes sense. After all people don't ahve to use things they don't but as I often say better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
in reply to Robin Frost

Exactly. That’s what I was trying to explain on the mailing list to someone who was upset.
in reply to Darrell Bowles

Me too. I sincerely respect a company who does their market research, knows their target market, and produces a product accordingly. How many times do we not get that as blind people? I'm honestly pretty pleased with what I'm seeing from their project thus far. And I know someone personally who did some of the back-end coding for the bt speak software. Keeping names confidential here, but one of our own is behind some of what you'll get when you buy one of these things. And he's no crap coder.
in reply to Nala Rosalin

Meanwhile, if you do pay to upgrade from basic to pro, they let you keep your basic until your pro arrives and then send it back. I think that’s pretty generous.
in reply to Allison Meloy

That's awesome! I'm going straight for the pro. I get both use cases, and that's awesome.
in reply to Darrell Bowles

I got a pro and really like it. Shipping it to Australia was painful, but worth every cent.
in reply to Allison Meloy

It arrived the Friday before I flew to the US for CSUN. Talk about timing! They must've known! Lol
in reply to Allison Meloy

@technocounselor @vol4life8657 @singingnala @robini71 It was a pretty small box. Perhaps the size of a VHS tape if you remember those? Or a bit smaller? Mine was just handed to me. Because that's what they do here.
in reply to Allison Meloy

@technocounselor @singingnala @vol4life8657 @robini71 It's all about that classic experience. I do wish it had braille, which is why I still use some other things to complete my toolbox. But you can never have too many tools in your toolbox to do the job that you need to do.
in reply to Scott Erichsen

@serichsen @technocounselor @vol4life8657 @robini71 No braille? I thought there was a braille version. Not a deterrent. Just, pouting meow and grumble. Lol.
in reply to Robin Frost

@robini71 @singingnala @serichsen @technocounselor I'm perfectly okay with this. I want something portable that I can take with me, with speech, internet connectivity, and as I said earlier, the ability to listen to those crazy bard books.
in reply to Allison Meloy

@technocounselor @vol4life8657 @robini71 @serichsen I knew I wanted it as soon as Mr. Coder Friend told me about it. I just can't remember what all it has. What made you buy it, friend?
in reply to Nala Rosalin

@singingnala @vol4life8657 @robini71 @serichsen Nostalgia for the old notetaker days and wanting to play with Linux without having to do a bunch of fiddling around.
in reply to Allison Meloy

@technocounselor @singingnala @vol4life8657 @robini71 Exactly. I was on the BT speak email list for a while, but coming back to more than 2000 messages, really hurt! The list is great, I'm just trying to work out a way of managing the traffic.
in reply to Scott Erichsen

@serichsen @technocounselor @singingnala @vol4life8657 Hey they're on groups.io are they not? Sign into your groups.io account if you don't have a password just say forgot and you can set one then navigate to the page for that email list, go to advanced options and set it to topic view where it gives you the first message of each new topic then you can decide to follow the thread or not in that message.
in reply to Robin Frost

@robini71 @serichsen @technocounselor @singingnala @vol4life8657 Robin, I'm gllad you mentioned this. On most of the groups I'm subscribed to on Groups.io I only have it sending me the first message in each thread. For threads I'm interested in I just go to the Follow this Topic link from within the message. For threads I'm not interested to I'll select Mute this Topic. It's done wonders for my mental health.
