I keep meeting people who tell me they read and appreciate my writing - both the weekly emails and my blog. That is what inspires me and gives me motivation and energy. Knowing that I'm not always just shouting into the void makes a difference!
@Zykino @raspbeguy the graph shows number of names in the THANKS file. In 2005 I went back and populated the file with all the names that had participated but that hadn't been added to the file properly. Hence the bump.

I suspect it changed git home? (Github has more peoples already there, so they are more eager to contribute since they already have an account)
The other possibility is curl suddenly made some noise (article, included by default in a popular software or distribution, …).
