Last week we fell for a stupid #Gmail hoax.

We'd like to apologize for sharing this image without fact checking first.

Particularly with the rise of #AI it's important that we all stay vigilant & not fall for #FakeNews.

#FreedomOfSpeech matters, but so does the #truth.

Though it's quite telling that many people would believe this without fact checking. That's just the reputation Google earned by now.

I thought you people were joking when you posted that stuff. Really stupid to fall for that kind of fake news. It is like saying Google is going to close shop.

They only sunsetting the basic html view in gmail web based accounts.

not only is Gmail one of the most important services of Alphabet, which would be weird to sunset, it is also a really nice tool to collect training data for AI development.

Not bashing, just saying that this is a weird thing to have believed.

A gma1l address is tied to so many things, most importantly, the majority of Android users' phones. Additionally, there's Y0uTub3, g00g13 search, cloud storage, many websites that use SSO and/or account linking, etc. etc.

In other words, this would bankrupt g00g13 as a company almost overnight.
