The location of your data cannot guarantee freedom from #surveillance. đź“·

#Switzerland has long been treated as a safe haven for your #data, but the Swiss government actively works with the EU and US by sharing data with #law enforcement and #intelligence agencies. 🚨

Say tutanota,

Germany is part of 14 eyes.
Although yes, it is true certain countries outside 14 eyes too share data like Japan.

There are products like Signal,Session which while they are in Usa,Australia are super private. More private then Tutanota could ever hope to be.

And its all because of the protocol.

All in All, the best safe haven for your data is your device running an open source operating system.

It's pretty obvious what you are getting at. To be honest, I do not like this "negative" advertising, trying to make competitor look worse, rather than promoting yourself. I have noticed this several times already and this time its an unfollow from all media. No country is "the best" when it comes to privacy, we all know. But a childish stab at swiss privacy competitors from a company based in Germany is a joke.

@dieTasse Proton seems to really not like the truth about "Swiss privacy" being nothing special. The only reason we did point this out is that their promotion of Swiss privacy being better is an exaggeration, even the Swiss themselves say so: steigerlegal.ch/2021/08/02/pro…

@dieTasse In regards to their post about of our encryption having a vulnerability:

This is not a vulnerability in Tuta. We have built Tuta with multiple layers of protection for our users. We currently use TLS and DANE to protect authentication and data integrity and (only tunneled) RSA-OAEP and AES-CBC to provide confidentiality. We have always communicated this transparently, it is nothing new. Neither the confidentiality nor the integrity of our users' data has been at risk.

@dieTasse However, we know that the implementation is not perfect regarding this detail. That is why we have also implemented the following security features since this has been reported first:

2FA & Simple verification of Tutanota apps

We are currently starting to roll out new encryption algorithms. Enforcing MACs is part of this upgrade, just as post-quantum secure algorithms, authentication & signature verification. We already have a working prototype of this hybrid encryption protocol.
