Stumbling over this bugzilla comment[1] from @ebassi warning about running GUI applications as root on #Linux. That all sounds very plausible to me. The only thing that bugs me, which isn't ebassi's fault, is that when you search for "how to properly implement privilege escalation on Linux" you mainly find links to exploit howtos.

in reply to ivanhoe • • •The answer is: "use polkit". Apparently, the search engine juice isn't strong enough. The worst thing is that if you search for "privilege escalation polkit", you get to pages detailing a bug in polkit.
I guess we need more guides for that. Maybe I should write one for the GNOME developer docs.
