I just discovered, that mastodon.social has a new way of subscribing. It now shows a popup where you need to copy the account link and then you have to go to your instance and paste the link to the search bar. It seems to me as a step back in a comfort.

@liaizon @Tusky I don't know. I even don't know if this way of subscription will be in fonal Mastodpn 4.0 version

I was refering to looking up accounts by the url or handle in tusky, and that way of finding accounts is part of activitypub so its not going anywhere... I am sure if it wasn't working in tusky now there was either a federation bug with the server you are on or the server you were trying to look up or a regression in tusky

Nah. This is just a method, that is used to subscribe from different server, then the one with your account.

If you open the account you want to subscribe to THROUGH the server you are using, it won't need to find out, what your original account is.

@LukeAlmighty yep. As I a have my own instance and as Mastodon is not backfilling posts I usually have to look to the user's instance to decide whether I want to subscribe or not. I am used to subscribe when I am there.

Also on the mastodon.online. Probably a change coming with version v4.0.0rc1. 🤷‍♂️

@Monzz And did you like it more before? The way it works on other servers for now? The old way is that it openes new window, where it asks to enter your account address. It then redirects you to user's profile view on your instance, where you can finish the subscription by clicking the follow buttton. There must always be a step that gets you to the user's profile on your instance. It's due to the federated nature of the network.

At least it's better for supporting other platforms on Fediverse. For example I'm on Misskey, so the way it worked before wouldn't really work for me and I would have to copy and paste the link into search anyways.

@freeplay Ahaa, maybe that is the reason. I thought that the instance redirect is somehow standardized. This makes more sense now...
