@jrp Yes, it is. Supports medical science. My clients currently are running mostly tasks for cancer research, but there are also tasks for Alzheimer and others. Each client gets a piece to process (called a "work unit"), the next WU when done – and their servers combine the results. The entire network thus makes up a kind of "super computer".

There are comparable projects such as BOINC, so you can take your pick if you want.

@IzzyOnDroid ✅ I am doing Boinc, on worldcommunitygrid.org - it is unsatisfying since quite some time. I've some old laptops doing only this, preferably on their GPUs. Anything else (e.g just CPU work) seems inffective. Mostly not working on WCG, lack of WU for GPU there. Ar your results open knowledge/patent-free?

@jrp Unfortunately on Linux, getting GPU supported is not that easy (at least it was not when I checked last), involving manual install of proprietary stuff and potentially breaking things, so I've never achieved that. I don't want to install proprietary stuff, and I cannot afford breaking the machine I need to work on 😉

@SkyfaR Ja, das ist guuut! Die 2k Grenze überqueren wir innerhalb der nächsten 24h. Nur um vom "Top 10k" Label eine Stufe hoch zu kommen brauchen wir einen weiteren Tausender. Also alle mille points die wir kriegen können!

Hm, hat Deine Andeutung etwas mit dem Mond und mit Katzen zu tun? 😜

Du hast es verstanden, fast 3 Wochen und Katzentime stehen auf der Uhr + ich kann noch paar Server zuschalten maybe. 😅 😋

aber ab nächsten, spätestens übernächsten Monat unterstützen zu Hause im Ho mich auch ein Ryzen 7 7800x3d + 4070 16GB Edition wenn die dann schon da ist mein Home Rechner.

Da kann bestimmt die ein oder andere WU auch mal gerechnet werden. 😅

Dann steht das nächjste große Upgrade mal mal an nach 5 Jahren.

@SkyfaR Ah, also das was ich bei mir vor einem Jahr gemacht hatte (nachdem mein Rechner auch seine 5+ Jahre drauf hatte). Glückwunsch!

jaa eigentlich hatte ich jetzt kein Upgrade geplant aber mein
#SteamDeck Gerät doch bei gerade großen AAA Titel an seine Grenzen, da nehm ich wohl doch nochmal "eine Generation" Upgrade "erstmal" mit, und da Upgrades auf AM5 + 4000er Generation vermutlich wieder ein paar Jahre halten werden, denke ich kann ich von AM4 (2600er) + 1060er auf AM5 7000er + 4000er Generation Upgraden schon mal noch machen. Vor allem ist das "preislich" "noch" okay.
