For those of us receiving email in multiple languages, it would be awesome to have #Firefox Translate built in to Thunderbird. No sending your sensitive conversations to a corporate cloud, just a lean translation service running locally.

We've decided to make it a development priority for Q1 2024!

You'll be able to track the progress via this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1823007

But as always, we'll also keep you posted right here.

In the meantime, the Web Translate add-on is OK:

@uhuru Speaking as a community manager who frequently receives questions about Thunderbird via email in Dutch, German, Spanish, and French, it seems like a useful feature to me 😉

Thats an edge-case feature. So make it an Add-On!
Much more usefull would be AutoCrypt by default and Key-Checks/-Sharing via known shared contacts.

sounds great! Just don't forget to not do the same mistake as @FirefoxNightly and only put a one-time notification to tell people about the new feature with a "got it" button that dismisses it for good.
Don't give us an "always ask for translation" default that makes people mad because they don't know how to remove it (digital literacy is still quite low and parameter buttons on these dialogs are quite small).
I don't want to have to manually check it out for my whole family again!
