To #blind #hamradio operators, a friend picked up a TH-D75A that he doesn't want. Having only worked with HT's running OpenGD77, are there any special advantages to this rig aside from the wideband receiver and D-STAR (which I don't really care about)? e.g. is APRS or the TNC of any use with things like Winlink?

in reply to Steve • • •Well, basically what you said. I don't have a TH-D75, I have the older TH-D74, and honestly I prefer using my TYT MD-UV380 most of the time. It has way better battery life, a better speaker, better TX audio... The TH-D75 is a little better in that respect.
There are no Winlink nodes close enough to me to easily get to with 5 watts, but I have the BLE converter board someone made for it so I can connect it to RadioMail on my iPhone if I ever need to.
I've used DSTAR on it maybe three times ever.
Dual receive is nice, but full duplex, especially for that money, would be even nicer, and it doesn't have that.
If you're in an area where the 1.25m band is at least attempting to be active, maybe that's an advantage.
