Running an interactive #Linux system?

Got performance problems? Is #memory low?

Try my drop_cache shell script

It could help, greatly!

Thanks to @Codeberg for hosting my repo

It is documented and easy to get going.

"please use Google as the first port of call."

๐Ÿ‘€ ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ’ก "I call using Google a bad idea." ๐Ÿ’จ

@IzzyOnDroid

Maybe so, but there is a reason as to why I wrote it.

Some people might put it on systems where cron is not working.

Then I would be inundated with questions about how to get cron working, etc etc

Therefore, I am, logically, trying to preempt the most obvious errors that could occur, because in my experience a lot of people don't read the documentation even if it spelt out everything in detail, etc ๐Ÿ˜

Yes, I got that. But I can never resist making pun of confusing "use Google" with using a search engine or doing research (and yes, I know it's so much shorter than my variant, and still everybody knows what is meant). Especially as a privacy proponent who avoids Google wherever possible ๐Ÿ˜‰ I go so far as to say "use the search engine of your least mistrust" ๐Ÿ™ˆ

@IzzyOnDroid

Sorry, if I explained the obvious but I missed your sarcasm.

I'm trying to be extra nice here and not assume that everyone is an arse, and feel that to #tonepolice the elderly is a wise course of action

I shall consider using such particular wording in the future and I do thank you for your comments ๐Ÿ˜

Hehe, no worries. I often notice that puzzled look on some faces when I use my "strange terms" (e.g. say "I used the search engine of my currently least mistrust, and here are my findings" instead of just "I googled"). Takes a while to sink in and getting used to โ€“ but (hopefully) gives some thoughts. And the much longer phrasing IMHO is worth it.

Also from me: No offense meant of course. I just again was on "thought-raising tour" ๐Ÿ™ˆ

@IzzyOnDroid yeah generally not a fan of using google as a term for just searching, especially since when it comes to shell scripting/programming duckduckgo imho tends to produce more relevant results (google has a bad habit of bringing paid advertiser sites to the front even if the information they have is flat out wrong)

@raptor85 right: duck it, searx it, startpage it, metager it, swisscow it, mojeek it, occasionally quant or alexandrinate itโ€ฆ I can't remember what time I last used G for a search, must be at least some years (before they started with that enforcing cookie banner you could not reject โ€“ that eliminated the remaining rare cases for me).
