Today marks nine years since the last big OpenOffice update (4.1). If you're still using it, but want something more up-to-date, check out #LibreOffice! It was based on OpenOffice and is also free and open source, but with huge improvements and many fixes: libreoffice.org/discover/libre…

Hubert Figuière reshared this.

@gpowerf
I am using
OpenOffice.
Know why?
Because it just works for what I use it for. Why would I use a similar product when the product I use just works for me.

@gpowerf I am, because I use Dragon Professional (speech recognition), which doesn't work in LibreOffice, unfortunately.
in reply to LibreOffice

@gpowerf Windows 11, Dragon Professional 16. In LibreOffice, the green indicator light shows on the DragonBar, but I can't select text by voice (Select-and-Say). When it released 16, Nuance claimed it worked with LibreOffice, but has since quietly removed those statements. 😞

@IzzyChambers @gpowerf Thanks for the details – if you have a couple of minutes, could you maybe check on bugs.documentfoundation.org in case someone else has reported it, please? Or add a report – then we can investigate. Thanks!

I remember, many many years ago, buying a copy of Staroffice.
in reply to LibreOffice

@ibeardslee In 2000, my parents bought a PC with StarOffice 5.1 preinstalled.
I discovered OpenOffice (1.x) in 2005 when I went to my cousin’s home once.

Office7 (a fork) was preinstalled on my first laptop PC (2007-2009).

I switched from Office 2007 to OOo in 2010, and from OOo to LibO the day of its public release (a winning bet, since nobody knew if this fork will last at this time).

solche Vergleiche zw LO und OOo sollten öfters aufgezeigt werden.

Openoffice revels in denial of its own end of life, it's so pathetic.

I don't understand why Apache doesn't end this project and redirect to Libre office.

I'm using LibreOffice to write my stories and create eBook manuscripts! Highly recommend!

Started with OO in 1997. Made the switch to LO 4 years ago. Keep up the good work.
