"The *only* reason curl is popular, is because it is *free* and it might have been first. Using curl is a temporary cost cutting measure. curl is a tool for the poor. "

Aart de Vries apparently knows.

„even the White House got the memo that C is not a programming language one should use anymore“

Thanks for sharing… had a good laugh 😅

Same applies to many commercial providers. Except they want money or data for the privilege.

@linus presumably, yes. But I imagine that lots of other people and projects get the similar style of "feedback" simply because a certain percentage of the people out there is like this.

I am pretty sure people think it is a tool to improve C capabilities by downloading libraries.

I'm so sorry that you are subjected to this level of venom regularly.
In an attempt to be a less silent majority, I would like more of us to speak up and appreciate the hard work that goes into #foss maintenance. Thanks for a wonderful tool that a BILLION people use, that's remarkable!

@shom I do feel that I get a fair share of love and appreciation that compensate for the occasional loonies that appear. But thank you!

@shom Well, we can also try in different languages.

Merci beaucoup pour ce sublime logiciel, et pour garder les pieds sur terre, afin de nous donner des explications claires en termes compréhensibles. Gloire à vous, Ô Daniel Stenberg !

(yeah, too much, ok ;) )

@agnes thank you, it warms my heart to read this!

He seems to be a really unpleasant and sad person and you should sue him for this one:

"Daniel is an expert in creating security problems; that’s the only reason why companies want to partner with him (because he put them there in the first place, most likely due to incompetence, but possibly also on purpose)."

first of all, a big „Thank You“ for providing us with curl for decades now. Second, you’re completely right with your reply on your blog. Aart has already shown what kind of person he is and going further down this road won’t make him a better person.
He can speak up again after bringing a gift to the software community for 20 years.
