Hashtags are where you put a # in front of a word or phrase to indicate the topic you're posting about, which makes it easier for people to find your post. Lots of questions answered about hashtags here:

For hashtags with several words, put them together without spaces, with capital letters #LikeThisExample

What I truly want is to lock hashtag(s) into one or more of my lists. When I follow people on climate or on gardening it would be cool to have that list just propagate all Toots using the hashtag for garden or gardening, etc.
Yes. I can step out of lists and do a search. But I seldom remember to do that.

in reply to D. B. Stuck • • •If you're using Mastodon through a computer, you might want to try the "advanced web mode" which lets you "pin" particular sets of hashtags in their own separate columns. Some people put multiple hashtags in the same column to create themed timelines:

If you're not on a computer, there are some third party apps like Fedilab which let you pin sets of hashtags too.
