Lately I've been seeing a lot of lacking alt text on audio posts on mastodon. Guys, audio alt text is just as important as image alt text. Just as we preach at people posting images that "a diagram" or "a funny meme" isn't helpful, "a piece of music" or "strange noises" aren't helpful audio alt texts. Describe the audio, not just the basic outline of what it is. We can't yell at image posters to do something we're not even doing ourselves. Just as image alt texts help more than blind people, audio alt texts help more than deaf people. Please try.

I try to, unless the description of what the audio is is self explanitory in the post. LIke, say the post is a post talking about someone demonstrating it, youv'e now described what the audio is going to be. I suppose, lol, and no I"M not saying I"M never going to audio caption, because I try to. But, wouldn't it be redundant, to say in the audio description. The sound of my dulset tones, me pressing keys on my keyboard, the sounds from the keyboarding including pianos, bells, drums, demo music, and more. I Already said in the post, that it's a demo of my new keyboard. HYpethetically. Now if I said just... here's a good song, and didn't describe the song? That'd be meh. I'd probably say. Here's a good song... Audio description, a moving 1970's pop song in D major. Featuring a warm female vocalist, lush strings, solid drums, a very good bass, and fantastic vocal harmonies. It is around, 105 BPM.
