People who host their own Mastodon (or fork) servers. What VPS provider should I be looking at to keep costs down, once we've outgrown affordable mastoHost? Needs to be accessible. I assume along with the server itself I also need to invest in some object storage for the media cache. Also wondering if it's even possible to port a mastodon database to a fork, E.G> glitch. I have literally no idea how to do anything with docker, I've never used it, so I'll probably be needing to work with tutorial articles and reading the docs. #selfhosting

My upcloud is not cheap, I get worse rates with the server I'm already running there than I will most other places, and I had to go with a specific plan for that that was 20 dollars, using the flexible and trying to get the same specs is actually higher. For this server, I think I can actually get equivalent specs from other providers for half.
